Gaming - Brutal Legend

Posted by Derek in Gaming

03.10.10 : So pissed. I have been playing Brutal Legend at work on my lunch on my dev kit for a while now. Recently I had to update my dev kit to a newer version, and low and behold it nuked my save games. Now I have to redo a lot to catch up to where I was. I did complete a mission I couldn't figure out in my last play through so I guess thats good news. I'll have updates on where I'm at after I catch back up.

03.09.10 :
Back at it. Finished the mission at the screaming wall. I still love the side quests with Kyle using the mortars. Those are my favorite side quests so far. Not sure where I'm at in the game and how much more I have to go. I'm about to do the quests inside the gates after grabbing the speakers at the screaming wall.

03.04.10 :
I did work son. I got past the gate into the fortress. Turning into a flying demon was pretty bad ass. I can see how it was like an RTS but I think its so much better, than say trying to play C&C on a console. The controls were simple and it was a blast. I also finished a side quest that had Kyle playing one of the giant hand dudes from the game. Funny.

Gaming - Final Fantasy XIII

Posted by Derek in Gaming
03.09.10 : Up in the AM here B. Picked it up at midnight... got about 1 hour into it. I love the art style, and the fact that its 1080p looks insane on my TV. I guessed well with this one... feels more like a 7-9 FF than a 10-12... So far so good. I also picked up the collectors edition stratedgy guide. I love collecting these. Great artwork and cool stuff inside as always. Ah well, I gotta sleep...

Project Exodus

Posted by Derek in Blog
NEXT MONDAY for the first FOR MEMEMBERS ONLY content, I'll be talking about Project Exodus.

Over the Christmas break I took on a personal project. Since I work in the video game industry I don't have the time to create a full on mod, which I miss from my time in college. I still wanted to create something, but time is of the essence and so I created Project Exodus, a quick two week project using all the different aspects of gameplay and level design.

I set out to do a quick two week design using an existing editor. The goal was to create some interesting gameplay and level design using existing assets with specific goals in mind for gameplay.

FOR MEMEBERS ONLY, Every week I'll be adding content from this project to my site from design documents, to paper maps, blockouts, and the final design. Next week will be the start of this which will explain what I did and how I did it.

What will it cover?
  • Basic game design doc writing
  • Google Sketchup (great layout design program)
  • Blockouts
  • Scripting (Will mostly answer any questions on this subject since its a very envolved process)
  • Final touches (FX, music, sound)
Also members will have access to the Project Exodus forums where I'll answer any questions anyone has.

Check out a preview of a section of what I created below.

This was created with assets already in the game, no new content, but using the existing content in a new way.
